When a client asks to have an app built, the first question we ask is - are you sure?

An app can cost a lot of money and sometimes a better option is a mobile-first website. Mobile first is a strategy for building a website that essentially means that we build a website for a responsive mobile device in priortity to desktops. We don't not build it for desktops but it must work for a mobile phone.

If you decide to go ahead and have an app built then we can help you. We outsource all our app development and project manage the process. We have found this the best way to keep costs down and get a better quality product. We have been asked to rescue clients developments in the past where they have hired an overseas provider to build an app but have not project managed the process. This doesn't work and we can guide you through this process.

One of the reasons we ask are you sure you want an app, is because the software sits on a persons phone. Therefore unless you do this carefully, you could have the situation where one persons user experience is different to anothers purely because of the version of the app. With a mobile first website this pain doesn't exist. The software sits on a server. So unless your app is going to become a massive business, you are probably better off with a mobile first website.

A great use case for having an app was a client wanted to automatically record a users movement in lon/lat in order to provide them with accurate business mileage for taxtion purposes. You can't do this in a mobile first website.
